His pleasant times are mostly immersing himself on a certain problem and trying to create a solution to solve them. A digital nomad and a night owl, he just loves to solve problems. Meet the marketer himself, JK Baseer.
What are you up to lately?
I want to bring meaningful growth in the world. So we started our full fledged digital firm, iStrata Digital last year, helping startup founders and offline established enterprises on digital strategy. With traditional brands finally understanding the importance of digital and startups who are looking for strategic level advice, we see a great fit together as a long time partner. I really see that these brands can overtake the current monopoly brands with digital strategy.
We just want to help them but it is better that I share what I meant with our digital strategy here: “Digital Strategy is not just social media or ads or nice looking products, it’s about bringing the brand closer to the customer with the product and reaching the product in an unconventional way to customers and Sustainable strategy in the competitive space.”
Tell us a bit about yourself.
When you give a toy to a kid, they will curiously look at all sides of it and start to immerse themselves and play with it. I am like that, my toys are problems in the world. My pleasant times are mostly immersing myself on a certain problem and trying to create a solution to solve this. Whether it’s a marketing problem or a huge problem in a country, I love to solve those things. This is me. All the other things I do is learning the skills and use it as a tool to solve those problems. I am an avid book reader, nomadic traveller – I have travelled about 16% of the world and a social entrepreneur.
Where are you now?
The beautiful Kuala Lumpur.
Don’t believe in that.
Are you an introvert or extrovert?
Extrovert but I have deep relationships with many introverts.
Your official designation now is?
Digital Strategist for iStrata Digital and Tradly Platform.

Digital Strategy. The mind that connects the Business Vision and Bringing executable Ideas.
What do you love about Marketing?
Able to see numbers. It is about bringing the graph up no matter what! As Steve Jobs said, you should feel happy when you go to sleep and I look at numbers before I sleep. I have my personal data studio dashboard to look at all the numbers I want to see in my life, from clients to personal projects. The graph going up keeps me motivated every day.
What do you hate about Marketing?
I don’t think there is anything I hate about marketing. But I hate myself that am not learning enough about PR and branding level thinking.
When thinking, you’d like to be alone or with people?
Your ideas, most of them came from?
Everything I see outdoors from common people to how other brands do it. Also, more readings – Googling leads me to a lot of research, Harvard Business Review and Medium blogs.
Are you a digital nomad or office freak?
Your favourite social media?
What do you do when you’re not working?
I read books.
Who’s your marketing icon?
Claude Hopkins, Guy Kawasaki and Andrew Chen.
What is the first thing you’d do when you’re hired/chosen to handle a new project?
I research about the market demand/supply, customer problems and competitor landscape.
Are you a morning person or a night owl?
Night owl, but I have been trying to be a morning person, which I believe is better than a night owl.
How do you stay motivated?
I look at the numbers. I do different projects at the same time, thus, one positive story among all allows me to keep motivated.
Ever got ideas from movies or songs?
Initially in life but I rarely saw movies for the last six years.
The best book you’ve ever read?
Making Ideas Happen – Scott Belsky.
