A Singaporean, a Senior Partner at Neu Entity and a branding expert. He specialises in marketing strategy and dislikes the fact that marketing can be misunderstood by expecting miracles. Folks, meet Ferdaus Amzah.
What are you up to lately?
Creating content to help businesses go digital, especially with the COVID-19 situation.
Where are you now?
At home? In Singapore. Been working from home for more than three weeks now.
Tell us a bit about yourself?
I run a branding agency. I love how good design & branding can have a profound impact on a business or organisation. And I ride a scooter.
Never checked it.
Are you an introvert or extrovert?
I think I’m an introvert.
Your official designation now is?
Senior Partner at Neu Entity.
Marketing is broad, what’s your specialty?
What do you love about Marketing?
How it’s actually very human and can bring people together, if done right.
What do you hate about Marketing?
How it can be misunderstood. Some clients expect miracles from Marketing.
When thinking, you’d like to be alone or with people?
Alone actually. But I do appreciate input from people when I want to bounce ideas.
Your ideas, most of them came from?
Inspiration all around me. People, past works, web, real life, etc.
Are you a digital nomad or office freak?
I do appreciate the digital nomad life. But once in a while, it’s nice to stay rooted with people around you at the office.
Your favourite social media?
I’d have to say… Instagram. It’s visual.
What do you do when you’re not working?
Spending time with my wife and two daughters.
Who’s your marketing icon?
Always respected the legend, David Ogilvy. But in today’s context — I follow folks like Simon Sinek, Michael Bierut, Seth Godin.
What is the first thing you’d do when you’re hired/chosen to handle a new project?
There would be a strategy session — this is where we understand the audience, context, brand, positioning and priorities. Otherwise, we’d be going in blind.
Are you a morning person or a night owl?
I used to be a night owl when I started my career. Now I’m more of a morning person. I guess it’s a change that comes with age.
How do you stay motivated?
Get bored. Get inspiration from non digital sources. Talk to inspirational people.
Ever got ideas from movies or songs?
The best book you’ve ever read.
There are so many! I don’t think I can narrow it down to one. The last book I read which was really good was The Brand Flip by Marty Neumeier.
