Global powerhouse 3M is propelling society forward with the unveiling of their ‘3M Forward’ platform. This transformative venture harnesses technology and innovation on a grand scale, offering solutions to tackle global shifts and drive societal progress.
3M Forward shines the spotlight on the groundbreaking work of 3M scientists, engineers, and experts. These industry trailblazers share how their cutting-edge solutions are crafting a better, brighter tomorrow.
“As disruptive as the global megatrends we highlight through 3M Forward may seem, we at 3M view disruption as the catalyst sparking breakthroughs in science and fostering a positive impact on society,” shared Ryan Rogers, the director of business building at 3M Ventures.
He underscored the power of science to conquer even the most daunting global challenges, and confidently positioned 3M’s diverse portfolio and extensive expertise as the key to delivering these innovative solutions on a large scale.
The groundbreaking initiative showcases the role of materials science in addressing three pivotal societal concerns: climate change and resource scarcity, the shifting demographics and social change, and the convergence of the physical and digital worlds.

To address climate change and resource scarcity, 3M Hong Kong collaborated with Kai Shing management services to install 3M Sun Control Film on the glass exterior of V City Shopping Centre in Tuen Mun the previous year.
According to Dr Enzo Lau, General Manager of the Technical Department at Kai Shing, “The 3M Sun Control Film not only aids in decarbonizing and energy saving but also preserves natural light. It reduces sunlight-related discomfort in shopping malls and prevents damage or deterioration of furniture and equipment from direct sunlight.”
In response to demographic and social changes, 3M has unveiled automation technology like the 3M Finesse-it robotic paint repair system. This technology boosts efficiency by spotting and removing defects on automotive production lines.
In collaboration with Microsoft, 3M has also introduced the Post-it app for Teams, an innovative tool that offers the tech framework to mirror in-person collaboration, providing increased flexibility and freedom.
Lastly, to further the merge of the physical and digital realms, John Banovetz, 3M’s CTO and EVP, stated, “We are enhancing digital automation on the production floor to refine supply and labor chains, strengthen consumer electronics’ functionality and output, and optimize the manufacture of vital semiconductors.”
These endeavours align with 3M’s various sustainability commitments, further strengthening the company’s dedication to fostering a better future.
