AmBank Group and Huawei Technologies Malaysia have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), championing their shared vision for sustainability. This collaborative endeavor seeks to promote solar energy, foster green data centres, drive electric vehicle charging, and introduce innovative energy storage solutions.
The pact heralds a renewed synergy. AmBank will offer financing and tailored business solutions to Huawei dealers. In return, Huawei will enjoy enhanced business deposit privileges, including preferential interest rates. Furthermore, Huawei dealers will now benefit from a dedicated AmBank team, ensuring personalized service and expedited loan approvals.

The momentous MoU signing took place alongside AmBank’s International ESG Conference. Highlighting its commitment, AmBank expressed via a LinkedIn post, “Our goal is a greener future for all and future generations. The time to act is now. Our collective survival depends on it.”
The ESG conference showcases AmBank’s steadfast commitment to sustainable practices and charts the path towards responsible banking within the region. Sulaiman Mohd Tahir, AmBank’s group CEO, emphasized the bank’s role in the broader financial landscape. He remarked on the bank’s recognition of its vital position in spurring social and economic development in the communities it serves. For AmBank, this dedication isn’t merely about offering banking services; it’s about empowering communities to usher in tangible, positive change.
In a related move earlier this year, Gentari, a clean energy solution provider, entered into an MoU with BMW Group Malaysia. This collaboration, routed through Gentari Green Mobility, a subsidiary of Gentari, delves into the possibilities of green mobility services and renewable energy initiatives.
Gentari reveals ongoing collaborative efforts with BMW. Their focus encompasses the establishment of electric vehicle charging infrastructures across different facilities and the entire BMW dealer network. Additionally, they are venturing into diverse electric vehicle fleet solutions within the Malaysian market. Plans are afoot to introduce added services for BMW electric vehicle owners, such as charging subscription plans, mobile charging amenities, and the joint roll-out of renewable energy infrastructure.
The green tech landscape in Malaysia is witnessing remarkable partnerships. These alliances, like the one between AmBank and Huawei, signify a proactive step towards a sustainable future. As these giants collaborate, the hope is that their collective efforts will set a precedent, leading more institutions to prioritize sustainability in their business models.
