Amazon India has recently initiated another wave of layoffs, impacting employees in Amazon Web Services (AWS) and People Experience and Technology Solutions (PXT) verticals, as sources informed Business Today. The current layoffs were announced by Amazon CEO Andy Jassy in March and are part of a larger downsizing effort affecting 9,000 employees.
Individuals within the Indian teams have now been identified and handed their termination notices. According to insiders, nearly 400-500 employees may be affected by this round of job cuts. Amazon has yet to confirm the exact number of affected employees.
Last week, around 100 employees were laid off from the PXT vertical, which comprises Amazon’s Human Resources team. One source revealed that their entire team of 17 people was let go, with PXT being particularly vulnerable.
In addition to the PXT layoffs, over 80 employees from data management teams were also terminated. These employees will receive standard severance packages and medical insurance.
AWS CEO Adam Selipsky had previously announced in an internal memo that AWS layoffs would start in North American teams before extending globally. He cited the slowdown in AWS revenue growth and macroeconomic conditions as the primary reasons for the downsizing.
Beth Galetti, Senior VP and Global Head of PXT at Amazon, echoed Selipsky’s sentiments in a memo, emphasizing the need to focus on top priorities and long-term business health.
