Axiata Group Bhd, a leading telecommunications group in Asia, has appointed Vivek Sood as their new Group CEO and Managing Director. He will start his duties on March 2023. Through his 20+ years of experience in a multitude of industries, Vivek has been Axiata’s Group Chief Financial Officer for 6 years. In addition to this role, last year he was also given the task of being one of the joint interim CEOs – while still taking care of his CFO responsibilities.
Vivek, who has taken up the role of Group CEO and Managing Director at Axiata will be responsible for overseeing the company’s growth plans, that involve strengthening 5G infrastructure and roll out of advanced digital services. His responsibilities include pushing the boundaries of innovation, consistently upgrading customer experience in Asian operating companies, and enhancing value for shareholders.
Axiata has appointed Dr Hans Wijayasuriya as Group Executive Director & CEO of the Telco Business. He is expected to bring a wealth of knowledge & experience to the team and help drive the company’s growth in this sector. Hans, with his extensive three decades of experience in telecommunications, acted as the interim CEO together with Vivek & has held many leadership roles in the organization for a significant amount of time.

Recently, Vivek was named Group CEO, thus bringing Lila Azmin Abdullah onboard as the Acting Group CFO. Lila has recently been appointed as the Group Chief Corporate Development Officer at Axiata, boasting 25 years of corporate experience. Before her current venture, she served as the Director of Group Corporate Finance at UEM Group.
