SINGAPORE, December 6, 2023 – BrainTrack, an innovative application designed to privately track and understand cognitive changes, has been honored as the Best App for Good for 2023 by Google. This recognition is part of Google Play’s Best of 2023 Awards, highlighting the app’s significant impact in the Australian market.
Developed collaboratively by Dementia Australia and Deakin University’s Applied Artificial Intelligence Institute (A²I²), BrainTrack has gained considerable traction since its launch in October 2022, with over 60,000 downloads to date.
Maree McCabe AM, CEO of Dementia Australia, expressed her delight at the recognition of BrainTrack, emphasizing its crucial role in promoting early dementia diagnosis. “With more than 400,000 Australians living with dementia – a number projected to double by 2058 – enhancing early diagnosis is imperative,” Ms. McCabe stated.
BrainTrack offers a unique approach to monitoring brain health. It engages users in travel-themed games, derived from validated cognitive tests, to explore common cognitive concerns. This not only makes the process enjoyable but also informative. The app enables users to share their results with their general practitioners, supporting the early detection of cognitive changes that may require further examination.
Google praised BrainTrack for its captivating nature and its innovative focus on declining cognitive abilities. The app’s blend of travel and learning was highlighted as a particularly ingenious aspect.
“I congratulate the incredible team behind this groundbreaking tool that is increasing the understanding of dementia and raising awareness about the importance of monitoring and talking about brain health,” added Ms. McCabe.
The development of BrainTrack was funded by the Australian Government, reflecting a significant investment in digital health tools and dementia research.
BrainTrack is available for free download on both the Apple App Store and Google Play. For more information about the app, interested individuals can visit www.dementia.org.au/braintrack or contact the National Dementia Helpline.
