In an exciting four-part video series in collaboration with TEC Create by The Executive Centre (TEC), the iconic 42-year-old Singapore Land Tower (SLT) celebrates its rich history, remarkable development, and ambitious rejuvenation.
Honouring the Past
The first video, launched today, takes viewers on a nostalgic journey to early 20th-century Singapore, showcasing the vibrant Raffles Place, the cradle of the nation’s commercial growth. Built on the site of the former John Little building, Singapore’s oldest department store, the 198-metre-tall Singapore Land Tower was among the tallest buildings in Raffles Place upon its completion in 1982. Despite several upgrades over the years, a significant milestone was achieved in 2021 with an ambitious rejuvenation project to transform this historic landmark into a next-generation office tower.
Transforming the Building Sustainably
The video features insights from the visionaries behind this extensive project, highlighting their inspirations, vision, and the innovative and sustainable approaches used. SingLand Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Eu remarked, “When you look at the scale of what we are doing, the magnitude of this asset enhancement exercise is probably one of the few examples in Singapore… the opportunity for us to keep the building live, comprehensively refurbish it to a Grade A standard was something we felt was feasible.”
Principal of Maki and Associates, Mr Gary Kamemoto, the architect leading the initiative, explained the enhancements: “A high-performance glass curtain wall was installed, allowing the building’s floor plate to be expanded while bringing more natural light into the interior spaces.”

Furthermore, the asset enhancement initiative (AEI) aims to infuse vibrancy into the building’s public spaces with greenery, art, and engagement activities. Ms Goh Poh Leng, Head of SingLand’s Commercial, highlighted that the building’s prime location offers panoramic views of Raffles Place and Marina Bay. Adding a rooftop sky garden allows these views to be enjoyed by a broader audience.
Vision for the Future
Expressing pride in the project, Mr Heng Chin Hong, Head of SingLand’s Strategy & Planning, stated, “We are very proud of what we have done for the building. We want people to walk around Marina Bay and be able to pick the building out from afar.”

Stay tuned for upcoming videos that will delve into the building’s flexible and amenity offerings, insights from key stakeholders, and placemaking efforts through greenery, art, and public spaces. These are slated for release in the latter half of this year and into 2025.
