In a major cybersecurity incident, several renowned YouTube channels were seized by cybercriminals within the last day, using the accounts to propagate a Tesla scam. Among the victims, Mojo Story, a news outlet, had its official YouTube account violated on Sunday, 4 June. Barkha Dutt, the founding editor, confirmed the breach in a tweet, stating that the email linked to Mojo Story was also hacked.
Other prominent accounts that fell victim to the cyber onslaught include Tanmay Bhat, a popular content creator and comedian, along with stand-up comedian Aishwarya Mohanraj and YouTuber Abdu Rozik. The breach led to calls for swift action from YouTube.
“I dont know how many times we urged @YouTube to freeze the platform so that the hackers could not alter it. But we kept being told “process of investigation has to be followed” – and now its gone,” tweeted the distressed journalist.
Importantly, as of the time of this report, both Mojo Story and Abdu Rozik’s accounts appear to have been restored, marking a silver lining in this alarming episode of cyber invasion.
