Deliveroo’s Pioneering Initiative for Rider Safety
This Children’s Day, Deliveroo Singapore has taken a significant step forward in promoting rider safety. In a groundbreaking collaboration with the Singapore Cycling Federation (SCF), the company has launched a unique workshop titled ‘Deliveroo Rides Smart with Heart’. This initiative, the first of its kind organized by Deliveroo, is designed to enlighten riders and their offspring about optimal road practices. This effort aligns seamlessly with Deliveroo’s third annual Rider Safety month, underscoring the company’s unwavering commitment to rider safety awareness.
A Day of Learning and Bonding at the Singapore Sports Hub
The 100Plus track at the Singapore Sports Hub witnessed an enthusiastic gathering of over 40 participants, including Deliveroo riders and their children. The day was packed with hands-on training sessions, where SCF imparted practical tips to ensure safety on the roads. The participants were equipped with knowledge on navigating through challenging traffic conditions, especially with their food delivery loads, and the art of maneuvering crowded pavements without compromising safety.
The ‘Deliveroo Rides Smart with Heart’ workshop was not just about training. It was an opportunity for riders and their children to bond over best riding practices. The event served as a poignant reminder for riders about the importance of safe riding, especially when the ultimate goal is to return home safely to their families.
Shahfudin Mohamed Sahim, a 45-year-old Deliveroo rider, shared his experience, stating, “Even though I ride for work regularly, Deliveroo Rides Smart with Heart was a good refresher for me and the practical tips that were shared during the session further emphasised the importance of road safety. My sons also had an extremely fun and enriching time learning about safe cycling habits, and it was heartening to see him take an interest in understanding what I do at work while reminding me to stay safe. We’ll definitely exercise these tips more as we cycle together as a family moving forward.”
The Imperative of Road Safety Education
The Singapore Police Force’s Annual Road Traffic Situation Report 2022 highlighted a concerning rise in road traffic accidents in 2022 compared to the previous year. The data underscores the challenges riders face daily.
Dr. Hing Siong Chen, President of the Singapore Cycling Federation, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration, saying, “We are so excited to team up with Deliveroo again for this year’s Rider Safety Month initiative. Following last year’s campaign where we held safety programmes for riders, we are delighted to now extend our workshop to the young as well. It is indeed important to cultivate the importance of road safety among the younger generation as they are the road users of tomorrow, and we hope to instill such mindsets through Deliveroo Rides Smart with Heart – encouraging and reminding both riders and their children of safe riding habits.”

Jason Parke, General Manager of Deliveroo Singapore, reiterated the company’s commitment, stating, “At Deliveroo, the safety of our riders is of our utmost priority, and we are continuously ensuring a safe working environment for them and the wider community. This inspired us to develop this initiative alongside Singapore Cycling Federation this Rider Safety Month and in conjunction with Children’s Day. We hope this workshop was not only helpful for the children in navigating roads safely, but also served as a refresher for our riders to continue practicing safe riding habits.”
Deliveroo’s Continued Commitment to Safety
Beyond this initiative, Deliveroo’s Rider Safety Month will feature a series of educational programs tailored for riders. Collaborations with Singapore Traffic Police, Singapore Civil Defence Force, and Singapore Red Cross are on the cards. Jason Parke added, “Since Deliveroo’s marking of October as Rider Safety Month in 2021, our initiatives have seen increased participation year-on-year from our riders and like-minded partners. We will continuously play our part in further educating our riders to practice good road safety habits – so we can together achieve safer roads.”
