Food and grocery delivery platform Foodpanda has been named as the official partner for the National Basketball Association (NBA) 3X Philippines. The exciting three-on-three basketball competition will feature both men’s and women’s teams, along with NBA-based entertainment, and is set to take place next month. Presented by Mountain Dew, the event promises to be a major attraction for basketball fans across the country.
Virtual signage and promotions for Foodpanda users
At the launch event held at the Mall of Asia Music Hall, Foodpanda revealed that the partnership would include a virtual presence in select NBA broadcasts on TV5 and One Sport, with virtual signage on the court and launch promotions. As part of the deal, Foodpanda users will also have the opportunity to win prizes related to the NBA.
Exciting collaboration comes amid downsizing
The announcement of the partnership comes just weeks after Foodpanda announced another round of job cuts. The cuts primarily affected business development roles in Malaysia. The move was attributed to the ongoing challenging macroeconomic environment. The company has pledged to support impacted employees with extended insurance benefits and employee assistance programs.
No word on impact to marketing teams
It is unclear if marketing teams will be affected by the downsizing or if any specific Asian countries will bear the brunt of the cuts. However, the statement released by Foodpanda echoes a similar one issued during the initial round of layoffs in September 2022, where the company had to let go of around 5% of its team members.

Delivery Hero faces tough times
Foodpanda is part of German online takeaway food company Delivery Hero, which reportedly reported slightly lower-than-expected gross merchandise value (GMV) in 2022. The company also saw a drop in shares of 11%, according to Reuters. Despite these challenges, the partnership with NBA 3X Philippines and Mountain Dew presents an exciting opportunity for foodpanda to showcase its commitment to sports and entertainment in the Philippines.
