Yahoo News reports that X (formerly Twitter) is experimenting with new video features, such as game streaming and live purchasing, to attract more creators to its platform. The company is currently testing simple game streaming features similar to Twitch, which are only available to X Premium subscribers.
Elon Musk, the CEO of X, showed off this feature during a 54-minute stream of Diablo IV from an anonymous Twitter account with the name @cyb3rgam3r420. The feature appears to support viewer remarks in streams but lacks the majority of creator-centric features found on competing platforms.
Through a new partnership with Paris Hilton, X is experimenting with live shopping features in addition to game broadcasting. Hilton has agreed to “create four original video content programmes per year with live-shopping elements.” It is uncertain whether X’s infrastructure will be able to support new live video features.
Large live audio and video broadcasts, particularly those boosted by Musk’s account, have been problematic for the company.
What is X Premium?
Twitter’s X Premium is a subscription-based service that provides early access to select features and adds a blue checkmark to accounts. The subscription is opt-in and paid, starting at $8/month or $84/year in countries. X Premium subscribers have access to features like Edit post, Half ads, Prioritized rankings, longer posts, and text formatting.
How to become a creator on X platform
For those interested in becoming a creator on the X platform, there are specific requirements to be aware of. As per the guidelines from the Twitter Help Center:
- You must be a member of either X Premium or Verified Organizations.
- Your posts should have garnered a minimum of 5M organic impressions cumulatively over the past 3 months.
- You should have a follower count of at least 500.
Upon fulfilling these requirements, you can activate both Creator Subscriptions and Ads Revenue Sharing by navigating to the Monetization section in your settings.
The Ads Revenue Sharing feature allows creators to earn from the organic impressions of ads shown in responses to their content on X. This initiative by X aims to provide individuals with an opportunity to generate income directly through the platform. It’s worth noting that creators have the flexibility to configure both Ads Revenue Sharing and Creator Subscriptions separately.
It’s essential to understand that X has the authority to alter or terminate the program based on various factors, including business, financial, or legal considerations. Additionally, X holds the discretion to approve or deny any individual’s participation in the ads revenue sharing scheme for similar reasons.
