The award ceremony was held at Think City’s headquarters, Wisma UAB, in George Town on November 20. The event was graced by the Chief Minister of Penang, YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow, who in his opening remarks, lauded Hamdan’s efforts. “Today, we recognise not just an individual but the transformative force behind collaborative initiatives that shape our urban future, sparking a new wave of growth, and transforming it into a thriving, culturally rich hub. This progression has garnered acclaim, boosted tourism, revitalised the economy, and influenced how people perceive and embrace the historic area,” he said.
Global Recognition from UN-Habitat
Her Excellency Dato’ Seri Paduka Maimunah Mohd Sharif, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of UN-Habitat, who presented the Special Citation, praised Hamdan’s impactful contributions. “Hamdan embodies the essence of UN-Habitat’s mission to foster socially and environmentally sustainable cities and towns embedded in the New Urban Agenda. This aims to optimise cities for sustainable development and outlines steps crucial for ensuring that cities and human settlements drive the implementation of SDGs. I am proud to honour his impactful contributions to the field,” she remarked.

Hamdan, reflecting on his recognition, expressed his gratitude and shared insights into his journey from an investment banker to a venture builder, and now with Think City. “This achievement is not just a personal milestone; it embodies the collective dedication of Think City and our shared aspiration for sustainable urban development,” he stated.
