Dinesh S.P., a software developer, and his fiancée Janaganandhini Ramaswamy will be the first Indian couple to marry in the online metaverse, a network of interconnected 3D virtual worlds, with a Harry Potter-themed wedding. On February 6, 5,000 of their friends, coworkers, and family from four continents will attend their digital wedding reception, with the bride’s late father ‘attending’ as an avatar and movie stars and politicians vying to be invited. In the morning, the couple will tie the real knot according to Indian customs, while the virtual reception will take place in the evening. They both are huge Harry Potter fanatics. “As a result, we’ll be ‘Potterheads,’ meeting and greeting our guests from all over the world in virtual mode,” said Dinesh. The bride’s father passed away last April, and he wanted to surprise his future wife by virtually bringing him in and making him a part of the celebration. He will appear as a 3D avatar in the metaverse, blessing them.
“We are the first couple to marry in Metaverse in India. I’ve been working on blockchain for a year, therefore I’m more knowledgeable about it and Crypto. So, I was thinking that why can’t we hold an event in Metaverse? I understand that Metaverse has a bright future and that major corporations such as Microsoft, Facebook, and others are investing heavily in it. So, I thought that by holding an event, everyone in India would be aware of the technology. We can work on and develop a startup,” mentioned Dinesh.
The hour-long virtual celebration took Vignesh Selvaraj, 27, founder of TardiVerse, and his team of 12 roughly a month to arrange, including the theme, digital venue, the couple’s avatars and outfits, and guest participation details. Guests can dress up as avatars of their choice and attend the celebration. On January 25, a demonstration will be held for people who are not technologically savvy. The news of the wedding has piqued the attention of more couples, with TardiVerse organising an event for Valentine’s Day.
