Indonesia is ready to entice international talent with its forthcoming ‘Golden Visa’ program, promising a longer stay permit and enhancing the nation’s appeal as a work destination. The announcement comes from Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno, following a Cabinet meeting with President Joko Widodo.
The golden visa, according to Uno, could revolutionize Indonesia’s strategy in attracting more foreign workers and investments, thus increasing job prospects. The initiative targets quality talents in the fields of digitalization, health, research, and technology. Moreover, it aims to make Indonesia a hub for digital nomads and entrepreneurs.

With the new visa program, foreign nationals could potentially enjoy up to a 10-year stay permit. However, the specifics of the policy are still being developed in collaboration with the Law and Human Rights Ministry’s Immigration Directorate General.
Uno expressed optimism that the program would establish Indonesia as a crucial player in economic growth, sustainability, and carbon emission reduction, given its status as the largest archipelagic country.
The ‘Golden Visa’ follows the recent launch of the ‘Second Home’ visa program, catering to affluent elderly foreigners planning to retire in Indonesia’s attractive tourist locales. The second home program had raised some concerns within the expat community due to its substantial proof of funds requirements, but reassurances were made for existing retirement visa holders.
