Luxury fashion brand Jimmy Choo has teamed up with popular manga series Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon to create a capsule collection. The partnership celebrates the shared values of individuality, empowering women, and creating zeitgeist-defining images. Sailor Moon has been renowned for its representation of female power since its inception, and Jimmy Choo aims to bring these qualities to life through the collection’s footwear and accessories.
The capsule collection revolves around the key characters, called the “Sailor Guardians,” including Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter, Sailor Venus, Luna (their mentor cat), and Sailor Moon. Jimmy Choo’s Creative Director, Sandra Choi, explains that Sailor Moon is a global phenomenon that unites different cultures and generations. This is what inspired her to collaborate with the manga series and celebrate its 30th anniversary through the collection.

The collection features footwear in different colours, such as pink, blue, green, orange, and red. Each style is defined by a unique persona and trait that inspired the design treatment, keeping with the distinctive characteristics of each Sailor Guardian. Being able to work closely with Naoko Takeuchi, the author of Sailor Moon, was so inspiring for the creative team at Jimmy Choo. The collaboration underscores the shared values of female empowerment and inclusivity through personality and self-belief.
The notion of transformation through fashion is central to the story of Sailor Moon. The clothes, especially the shoes, play a vital role in the identity of the characters. The most powerful transformer you can step into is your shoes, says Choi. The collaboration began with a limited-edition Sailor Moon boot, an in-real-life (IRL) version of Sailor Moon’s transformation look. Each pair of boots was encrusted with about 19,000 Swarovski crystals and came in fuchsia color with a crescent moon jewel at the top. The boots also had a 10-centimeter-tall kick heel, maintaining the original look of Jimmy Choo’s classic shoes. It debuted at the Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Museum at the Roppongi Museum, Tokyo.

She believes that the Jimmy Choo brand shares her characters’ youthful, pure imagination and power, and it is a cool brand that she loves.
