Monster Press Sdn Bhd, a leading Malaysian publishing technology company, has announced the launch of an AI-based publishing platform MOPress. This AI-publishing platform is built to help the media by offering a chance for journalists to create high-quality and engaging content with proprietary tools and services. MOPress seeks to help publishers find good writers who can create engaging online content using the platform. The platform has been in beta since last year and has now successfully launched with its new AI capabilities.
According to The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission Survey 2018, more than half of the internet users in Malaysia (56.3%) stated that they read online publications, including e-books, online magazines, newspapers and journals. The digital media landscape in Malaysia is growing, and this presents a substantial opportunity for Monster Scape Sdn Bhd and their MOPress platform to tap into a growing market in Malaysia and the rest of the region.
Sean Teoh, CEO and Founder of Monster Press Sdn Bhd said, “We are excited to be at the forefront of the evolving media industry in Malaysia and the rest of the region. With state-of-the-art AI tools on the MOPress platform, we will be able to help publishers create engaging and high-quality content easily and efficiently. The way we consume media is always changing. With MOPress, publishers will finally have the tools available to stay ahead of the curve and sustainably grow and build their readership. Some of the leading media companies are testing our platform currently.”
With a changing media landscape and retrenchments in the local media scene, the MOPress platform is providing alternatives to the industry to take control of their content and work directly with publishers.
Leveraging technology to increase productivity and efficiency in the media industry
Using a model like Grab, but for content, MOPress helps digital publishers access high-quality content through their Mobile Journalists (MOJO). Content creators or MOJOs can upload their content to the platform and publishers can purchase the content for their use. The flexible payment options also allow MOJOs to compensate well for high performing content and give publishers the flexibility to lower costs by effectively managing their operating costs without sacrificing quality.
The MOPress Content Management System (CMS) platform also offers journalists the ability to develop and enhance content using AI tools effectively. This includes developing interactive content that automatically introduces video and audio into the content directly through the platform.
The AI tools currently being developed on the MOPress platform include interactive content tools, text to audio and video conversion, programmatic capabilities, user segmentation, forecasting tools for the virality of content and AI-labelling tools.
MOPress aims to empower the Southeast Asian publishing industry
With more than 20 publishers onboard and over 2,000 content creators, the MOPress platform already has a strong network in Southeast Asia and is looking to expand across the region.
MOPress has already proven the success of their service by transforming the business model of Chinese language news portal Tantannews.com by completely outsourcing content creation to MOJOs. They were able to achieve lower overhead costs and improved monthly readership to over twenty million page views a month because of more engaging content. Other publishers currently using the MOPress platform include KitaReporters founded by a former journalist from Utusan Group and Dznewsasia – a Chinese entrepreneurship website. This year, nine publications in various languages are in the process of being rolled out.
Sean shared, “We have established the product and proven the success of our service by increasing readership for our publishers and helping them scale their content creation efficiently. We see the untapped potential in the region and feel this is the perfect time to introduce MOPress to the region.”
