Landing subsea cable to Satun and extend it to D8-1 data centre in Delapan, Special Border Economic Zone (“SBEZ”) to increase data traffic and optimise the performance of digital services in the region
Open DC Sdn Bhd and Campana Group are pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance regional connectivity and digital growth in Southeast Asia. The MOU outlines Campana’s plan to land its subsea cable at the Satun Cable Landing Station (CLS) in Thailand and extend it via a terrestrial cable to the D8-1 data centre, owned and managed by Open DC in Delapan, Special Border Economic Zone (“SBEZ”), Malaysia.
This partnership marks a significant milestone in improving the telecommunications infrastructure between Thailand and Malaysia. By creating a high-speed and reliable connection between these strategic locations, the project is set to drive regional digital growth and enhance network resilience for businesses and consumers in both countries.
D8-1, located just 2km from the Thai border, is the first tier 3 data centre in northern Malaysia. Its strategic location and top-tier infrastructure make it an essential hub for cross-border connectivity, offering businesses improved data transfer speeds and greater reliability. With the extension of Campana’s cable to D8-1, the data centre will play a pivotal role in managing increased data traffic and optimising the performance of digital services in the region.
Weng-Yew Wong, Managing Director of Open DC said, “The deployment of this subsea and terrestrial cable system is expected to bring numerous benefits to businesses in Southeast Asia. Enhanced network capabilities, including faster speeds and reduced downtime, will support a variety of applications, from cloud computing to secure data exchanges. This improved infrastructure will not only strengthen connectivity between Malaysia and Thailand but also open new avenues for regional businesses to expand their digital footprint and improve operational efficiency.”
Dr Myo Ohn, CEO of Campana Group, said: “This partnership with Open DC is a crucial step in reinforcing Southeast Asia’s digital backbone. The landing of our subsea cable in Satun and its extension to D8-1 will ensure that businesses and consumers benefit from a more resilient, high-speed network infrastructure, enabling new opportunities for growth and innovation.” The project is expected to have a substantial impact on the telecommunications landscape of Southeast Asia, enhancing cross-border connectivity and improving access to international markets for Malaysian businesses. This collaboration between Open DC and Campana will ultimately support regional digital transformation and bolster the overall competitiveness of the region in the global digital economy.
