Pepsi has recently launched its new “Great Acting or Great Taste?” campaign during Super Bowl, featuring Pepsi Zero Sugar. In line with this, the brand has made the fictional character Derek Zoolander as its new face.
Zoolander Challenges Cola Drinkers
As part of the campaign, Zoolander is advising cola drinkers to try Pepsi Zero Sugar and make their own judgements about whether or not they actually enjoy the new and improved beverage rather than just enjoying it because of Zoolander’s exceptional modelling and acting abilities.
Zoolander will appear in 30 and 15-second spots as part of the campaign, where he will recreate his iconic 2001 cola pour. This marks Zoolander’s biggest comeback yet.
Advantaged Product
Todd Kaplan, chief marketing officer of Pepsi, expressed his excitement over the campaign and the advantages they have with the new and improved taste of Pepsi Zero Sugar. Kaplan added that people are trying the drink for themselves in response to their “Great Acting or Great Taste?” campaign during the Super Bowl.
Zoolander’s Cultural Resurgence
Kaplan noted that Zoolander has seen a resurgence in popularity, particularly on TikTok, which has been amplified by his role in the brand’s Super Bowl campaign. Thus, it’s only fitting that Zoolander become the face of the campaign.

Multi-Month Commitment
The campaign extension is a multi-month commitment that includes numerous television commercials, media purchases, and other activities to promote the updated Pepsi Zero Sugar. Brand Pepsi is going all-in on Zero Sugar in 2023.
Collaboration with Lindsay Lohan
Recently, Pepsi has also collaborated with Hollywood star Lindsay Lohan. The brand teamed up with the actress fresh off her holiday hit film, Netflix’s Falling for Christmas, and her recently released rendition of “Jingle Bell Rock.”
Pilk and Cookies Challenge
Together, they encourage everyone to enjoy “Pilk” – a trending combination of Pepsi and milk. Pepsi introduced Pilk and Cookies, giving the traditional milk and cookies holiday tradition a naughty new twist. Pilk pairs well with cookies because it has the sharpness of Pepsi and the delicately sweet, creamy flavour of milk, often topped with creamer. This popular combo, according to the press release, has been growing for a number of years and recently became popular on TikTok because to its viral nature.
