In a landmark partnership, digital media streaming titan Roku is joining forces with e-commerce giant Shopify. This collaborative venture aims to afford Roku users the unique opportunity to purchase products directly from TV ads, significantly expanding the scope of Shopify’s vendors.
Upon encountering a commercial for a Shopify merchant while streaming, viewers need only press ‘OK’ on their Roku remote. This interaction allows potential buyers to explore and directly purchase the advertised product without ever leaving their television screen. The transaction is simplified through Roku Pay, the brand’s integrated payment platform, and once completed, viewers can seamlessly resume their streaming session.
Following a completed transaction, the respective vendor will email a confirmation to the buyer, affirming the order and ensuring a smooth return to their Roku viewing experience.
This new feature marks the first commerce integration for Shopify vendors into Roku’s Action Ads. As a result, Shopify vendors can now significantly broaden their consumer reach. The integration also ensures a seamless checkout experience within the streamed advertisements, enhancing user experience on the Roku platform.
Several vendors, including men’s apparel brand True Classic, fitness technology company Ergatta, and wellness brand Olly, have already joined as inaugural partners.
“Roku Action Ads address both these needs, providing a frictionless path to purchase for customers while allowing us to measure the impact of this strategy with the end-to-end Shopify integration,” Paige Decker, VP of growth at True Classic, remarked on the collaboration.
Moreover, the Roku and Shopify integration grants advertisers access to a wider consumer base and valuable customer data, offering insights into prevailing purchasing trends.
Peter Hamilton, Senior Director of Ad Innovation for Roku, commented on the platform’s role, “Roku democratises access to TV advertising and now, we’re collapsing the funnel for Shopify’s merchants.”
Meanwhile, Shopify has just assigned Sling & Stone as its agency of record in Southeast Asia, as the company looks to solidify its status as the preferred e-commerce platform in the region.
