A recent survey by Shopee found that older Singaporeans are using e-commerce and online entertainment much more than they used to. The survey found that 70% of those aged 55 and above, also known as the silver generation, have incorporated e-commerce into their daily routine.
LARGER VARIETY OF ITEMS PURCHASED ONLINE
Seniors not only use e-commerce, but they also buy a wider variety of products online than younger people do. The survey showed that the silver generation’s online shopping habits exceeded those of Gen Z and Gen X, with 84% of seniors purchasing a broader variety of items online, compared to 80% of Gen Z and Gen X.
APPS AND GAMES IN E-COMMERCE PLATFORMS KEEPING SENIORS ENGAGED
The survey also showed that seniors use apps and games on e-commerce platforms like Shopee to keep themselves busy when they have free time. 50% of respondents stated that these apps and games have helped them stay occupied.

Shopee says that the silver generation’s growing interest in e-commerce gives businesses new chances to reach this growing group of customers. Businesses can reach this group of people and give them what they want by using the right content at the right time.

The survey also found that consumers are making more online purchases and receiving more packages from e-commerce platforms. Over 70% of respondents receive up to five packages each month from these platforms.
