In an exciting update, Sydney is prepped to be the hub of technological and artistic innovation from December 12 to 15, 2023. The International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) is all set to host the 16th ACM SIGGRAPH Asia Conference and Exhibition on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques. This annual extravaganza is bound to captivate enthusiasts, drawing in some of the brightest minds from computer graphics, animation, gaming, education, emerging technologies, and more.
The Theme: “Connecting Stories”
Dubbed “Connecting Stories,” SIGGRAPH Asia 2023 promises a gathering like no other. The event aims to be the zenith of innovation in the region, spotlighting expert insights and ground-breaking advancements.
June Kim, Conference Chair for SIGGRAPH Asia 2023 and a notable figure from Australia’s UNSW Art & Design faculty, remarks, “SIGGRAPH Asia 2023 will fortify New South Wales’ status as a knowledge hub for creative industries. Star-studded Keynote Sessions
SIGGRAPH Asia 2023 boasts an impressive lineup of Keynote Speakers. Audiences can look forward to insights from Professor Jun Murai, often hailed as ‘The Father of the Internet in Japan,’ and Joe Letteri, a five-time Academy Award winner with masterpieces like “Avatar” and “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy under his belt.
Further elevating the event are prominent speakers such as Bryan Catanzaro of NVIDIA and Sabine Laimer and Robin Hollander of Wētā FX, all ready to dissect the nuances of technology, visual effects, and virtual production.
Introducing New Programs
Making its debut is the Junior Computer Animation Festival, catering to budding animation enthusiasts between 8 to 18 years. The festival is poised to be an educational journey, blending creativity with the latest in animation technology.

The 2023 edition sees the comeback of much-loved segments. “Crossing Thresholds,” helmed by Victoria Szabo of Duke University, dives deep into the transformative power of computer graphics and interactive tech. Meanwhile, Joe Cincotta’s Demoscene program offers a treat to the computer art subculture, coupled with the return of the Doctoral Consortium and the much-awaited Educator’s Forum.
