Top coaches from the Singapore-based online learning academy, The Next Level (TNL), worked with one of their terminally-ill students to create an Amazon Best Selling e-book from scratch in 6 weeks. This epitomises TNL’s mission is to equip students with practical education that elevates their careers or provides a strong foundation for a career switch.
The online education industry is projected to reach SGD $328 billion by 2022 globally. At first, professionals were taking the opportunity during the pandemic to improve their competencies appear to be the primary driver. However, the mindsets and attitudes towards work resulted in a workforce movement coined The Great Resignation. A March 2021 survey by Microsoft revealed that 40% of the global workforce considered leaving their employers this year.
The growing demand for upskilling led to TNL’s creation of The Nexus, a platform that connects over 200-course creators and 1,600 students with over 100 courses on the platform. TNL challenged its community in September, where the course creator who achieved the highest number of sales will personally work with the top coaches to create an Amazon Best Selling e-book from scratch in 6 weeks; an undertaking that would normally cost upwards of $30,000.
Edwin Chew who works in IT Support and has businesses involving health and wellness consultancy, as well as dropshipping emerged as the winner by having a total of $2538 worth of sales for his online course in Nexus within 3 weeks. Diagnosed with terminal muscular dystrophy, doctors predicted he wouldn’t live beyond adulthood. Today, at 36 years old, he is determined to remain optimistic and doesn’t let his physical challenges stop him from leading a purposeful life.
Edwin’s book M.A.S.T.E.R. Bahasa: To Uncover Myriad Opportunities in South East Asia’s Largest Economy teaches Bahasa Indonesia. It took him and the team 4 weeks to create. The book was published on 28 November and became an Amazon Best Seller on the first day.
“Through the challenge, I learned that life has many uncertainties, but you will certainly win if you have a give-it-all you have and never give up. A strong mindset determines your success.” Said Edwin, who found inspiration from the successes of his peers in the community.
“Being able to help Edwin to become an Amazon Best Selling Author really gave our team a lot of encouragement. It shows that we all have the gem inside us, we just need to understand how to make it shine. And Edwin is the proof that anyone can make it as long as they believe in themselves.” said Chris Chen, co-founder of TNL, when asked about Edwin’s success.
TNL believes that the possibilities for the growth of online education in breadth and depth will become more sophisticated in the future as technologies and teaching methods advance. In 2022, The Next Level will invest $500,000 to double their student intake and reach 100,000 monthly active users.
