Kim Pan Gon, the enthusiastic head coach of the national team, was brimming with pride as Harimau Malaya dealt a crushing defeat to Papua New Guinea. The friendly match held at Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium resulted in an impressive 10-0 win.
Pan Gon was ecstatic with the unwavering dedication and high-quality play shown by the team, which was appreciated by nearly 10,000 spectators at the stadium. The impressive show of talent displayed by his team was the result of tremendous hard work to meet the coaching staff’s demands and the ability to withstand intense pressure.
Constantly striving to improve, the players exhibited their mettle under duress, testament to the transformation in Malaysian football towards a positive, dominant, and proactive approach. Yet, Pan Gon cautioned that this monumental victory does not signify the end of their journey, but merely a stepping stone towards greater heights.
Having assumed the helm since January of last year, Pan Gon observed a significant boost in the players’ confidence with each passing game. This psychological strength plays a crucial role in warding off fear-induced concentration lapses that could hinder performance.

The spectacular second half of the game, displaying an innate drive from the players, was a pivotal factor in the sweeping victory. The coach also commended the team for their grasp on the game model and tactical approaches within the last year and a half.
The game saw brilliant performances from Arif Aiman Mohd Hanapi, Paulo Josue, Mohamad Faisal Abdul Halim, and Daniel Ting, all of whom greatly contributed to Malaysia’s triumph.
This victory of Harimau Malaya marks their fourth consecutive friendly victory and the biggest win since their 7-0 triumph over Bhutan in 2018. Papua New Guinea’s head coach Harrison Kamake was taken aback by the defeat and admitted that his team’s inability to adhere to instructions resulted in their loss.
