Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company (HOSE: VJC) has reported robust business performance for the first nine months of 2024 by maintaining stable operations in Vietnam while expanding its international network to meet the mounting travel demand.
200 million passenger milestone
In the first nine months of 2024, Vietjet transported over 19.6 million passengers across 104,000 flights, marking increases of more than 6% and 2% year-over-year (YoY), respectively. The airline saw a 9.1% YoY growth in international travellers, welcoming over 2.54 million passengers from international routes.
During the same period, Vietjet reported air transport revenue and consolidated revenue of VND51.7 trillion (approx. RM8.88 billion) and VND52.2 trillion (approx. RM8.96 billion) respectively, growing by 32% and 19% YoY. Separate and consolidated after-tax profit reached VND1.13 trillion (approx. RM195 million) and VND1.4 trillion (approx. RM241 million) respectively, seeing leaps of 884% and 564% YoY.
As of Q3 2024, Vietjet’s fleet, comprising 85 aircrafts, achieved an 87% seat utilisation rate and maintained a technical reliability rate of 99.7%. The airline operates 155 routes, including 112 international routes.
Vietjet has launched new direct services to Malaysia, India, Australia, China, and Laos, among others, while boosting flight frequencies on many other routes to South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong and more. From Malaysia, travellers can now enjoy seamless connections to global destinations through Vietjet’s daily flights from Kuala Lumpur to Ho Chi Minh City, as well as the upcoming direct service from Kuala Lumpur to Hanoi.
With its expansive flight network and robust passenger growth, Vietjet celebrated a major milestone in Q3 2024 by welcoming its 200 millionth passenger. This achievement highlights Vietjet’s commitment to connecting Vietnam with the world, promoting tourism, trade, and bilateral investment between Vietnam and other nations.
New aircraft and green fuel
At the Farnborough International Airshow in July, Vietjet signed a contract with Airbus to purchase 20 new generation wide-body A330neo aircrafts with a total value of US$7.4 billion (RM32.3 billion). In October, the airline added three new aircraft to its fleet and will continue to receive more environmentally friendly planes throughout the fourth quarter of this year. Vietjet also inked contracts with leading aerospace companies, including Rolls-Royce and Lufthansa Technik, affirming its commitment to investing in cutting-edge aviation technology solutions and services to maintain the highest standards of safety and quality. Additionally, the airline partners with reputable international suppliers to support sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and technical services for its modern fleet.
