Wunderman Thompson, one of the best advertising and marketing firms in the world, has named Gavin Bain as its new CEO, starting right away. Bain has worked in marketing and advertising for more than 30 years and was once the national managing director for the agency’s Australian operations. He has worked as a senior client at Bankwest, Adelaide Bank, and Hartley Poynton Wealth Management. He has also worked as an executive at Marketforce and Meerkats.
At the same time, Wunderman Thompson has appointed Matt Parry as the new business lead for WPP Team Helix for HSBC in APAC, one of the group’s key global clients. In 2006, Parry started working at Wunderman Thompson. He was previously the managing director of the agency’s Hong Kong office, where he grew the business in the market. He will be relocating to Hong Kong to assume his new role.

Wunderman Thompson will continue to expand and modernise its business under the direction of Bain through innovation, consulting, and technological prowess to generate a broader organisational impact for clients. The agency is renowned for its effective branding and communications strategies, which have been strengthened by key competencies like business transformation, EX, CX, strategic design, technology, data, and commerce. These capabilities are all interconnected to support the growth of ambitious brands.
In a statement, Parry expressed his confidence in the agency’s continued success under Bain’s leadership, saying, “Wunderman Thompson will continue to grow from strength to strength under Bain’s brilliant leadership and the team of outstanding individuals that make up the business in Australia. I’m proud of what this group has already achieved, and what is sure to come for them.”

Wilson Ang was appointed executive creative director in August last year, and Anant Deboor was appointed head of strategy for Hong Kong. The leadership group at Wunderman Thompson in the area was strengthened as a result. Wunderman Thompson is in a strong position to maintain its success and expansion in the international advertising and marketing sector with the addition of Bain and Parry to its leadership team.
